²³ However, I raised my hand in an oath to them in the wilderness and swore that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them among the countries ²⁴ because they had not observed my ordinances. They despised my statutes. They profaned my Sabbaths, and they fixed their eyes on the filthy idols of their fathers. ²⁵ So I gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances by which they could not live.^[a]
